The John Flynn College offers bursaries to new and continuing students. The bursaries cover a proportion of fees and provide further opportunities for the advancement of residents’ studies.
At the beginning of each year College Council offers two bursaries to first year students. Recipients are chosen on their response to a set of selection criteria. This selection criterion is only available once you receive your final accommodation package.
These bursaries are awarded at the Morning Tea for students and their parents held during Fresher Weekend.
At the end of each year The John Flynn College and Community like to recognise Excellence in Academic Performance and the contribution and community spirit students make to College life throughout the year.
There are six monetary bursaries for academic performance:
- The John Flynn College Bursary for Academic Excellence (four bursaries awarded annually to a student returning to Flynn in the following year). These bursaries are credited toward College fees in the following year.
- Norman J. Nielson Award for Academic Excellence (awarded to a male student). This bursary is a cash prize
- Lila Beatrice McKenzie Award for Academic Excellence (awarded to a female student). This bursary is a cash prize.
Community Awards are also awarded for recognition of the contribution a student gives to college life. Recipients are judged on their conduct, care and consideration of fellow students and on the participation in college and inter-college activities and college life.
The recipient of The Peter Milaras Award for Contribution to the College is decided by nominations from the students in residence. While the recipient of The John Flynn College Principals Award is decided by the College Principal.
